Dawson’s Bedroom Reveal
OH MY WORD…… I’m so glad this room is finally done!
It really is one of my favorite rooms that I’ve ever put together. I love it because it fits my son perfectly. It’s sporty, has his favorite colors and it also has some very industrial and rustic elements.
There were a lot of different projects that I did in this room so I’ll give you all the details on how I did them.

Dawson’s bedroom redo {part 2}
Phew! What a crazy weekend! I finished painting Dawson’s room, stained his furniture, hung shelves and organized all of his junk…. but there were a few set backs along the way and we had an unexpected visitor drop by (I’ll post some pictures….SO GROSS!!)
After all the grey paint had dried, I started taping off the room for the orange stripe. I measured up 5 ft from the floor and then did an 18″ stripe all the way around the room. To get the cleanest line possible, I first painted along the edge of the tape in the same color as the wall. This seals the edge and will give you the cleanest line.
Dawson’s Bedroom Redo {Part 1}
So it’s been a long time coming to redo my son Dawson’s room. He’s 11 years old and he’s had the same bedding/decor since he was 2!
He’s always loved sports and while I think his old bedding was cute, it’s a little too juvenile for him now.
Here’s what his room looked like before:
Now I really want to try to give my kids rooms that they want…but it’s so hard to find that balance between what they want and what I WANT! If you know my family, you know that we are big University of Tennessee fans. We lived in Knoxville for 2 years and my husband and my son LOVE the Vols. Well, their color is orange. So guess what my son wanted? You guessed it…an orange room. Now, that’s a tough one for me. Orange is a pretty bold color and isn’t exactly my favorite. But it’s what he wants and he also wants to have kind of a basketball theme so I guess it goes with that.
Strawberry Spinach Salad {with poppy seed dressing}
This is one of my FAVORITE salad recipes of all time. I got this recipe from a family friend and it has been my go-to recipe for years. In fact I make it so much that I’m always getting requests to bring it to things and it’s been nicknamed the “MarKay Salad” (wish I could take credit for it!) The dressing is out of this world yummy (don’t let the green onion scare you!) It’s perfect for a summer BBQ…. or really anything!

{Pottery Barn Inspired} Beachy Summer Mantle
I am so excited to share this with you! I love the whole beachy/coastal/nautical theme going on right now at Pottery Barn, West Elm, Target etc. When I walked into Pottery Barn last month I was in awe and I wanted to buy everything in the store (but unfortunately my wallet’s not that thick…) SO I of course did some improvising and came up with some of my own ways to recreate the look.
