How to create your own family photo wall

So we moved into our home about 9 months ago and in our entry way I’ve had this big blank wall just STARING at me… It’s like it was screaming at me saying “Please, make me pretty!” So I started looking on Pinterest and seeing all these cute ideas for gallery walls and knew that’s what I wanted to do. But I didn’t want to just hang pictures, I wanted to do a little more than that.

I started off by taping off the area I was going to use. I made a big rectangle on my wall that measured 4 ft. by 12 ft. (I know…..it’s a big area)

I ordered a stencil online from Cutting Edge Stencils called “Rabat”.  The instructions were pretty simple to follow.  You basically just tape it up on your wall and paint over it.  Not much to it!  My wall was already grey so I just painted over it with a white flat paint.  The wall paint was satin and the white was flat so it gives it a nice shiny contrast in the right light.

It took me about 6 hours to do the entire area.  There was a little a little bit of paint bleed under the stencil so I did have to do some touch up…(not much)

After all the stenciling was done, I added a wood trim around it that I painted a golden yellow.

Now for the really fun part…adding all of your own personal touches!

I used my project as a good excuse to get some new family pictures done :)  I had us all dressed in bright colors so it would really “pop” on the wall.
I ordered canvases from a company called Easy Canvas Prints.  I searched all over for canvases at a good price and this was by far the best deal around!  They make it super easy by having pre-made layouts that all you have to do is click and drag your picture onto!  The best part is when they come they are not only beautiful but they come with a template you can hang on your wall that shows where your nail goes.  So there’s really no way to mess it up!

After all the pictures were hung I added some fun accent words and symbols that I had spray-painted.  I love how 3-dimensional the wall is!  But the best part is when someone walks through my front door I always get compliments and they get to see my beautiful wall and everything that’s important to me: MY FAMILY :)

  1. Markay you amaze me!!!! So awesome! So you can come help me decorate my house if we ever build, right?? Lol

  2. This is beautiful! I love the stencil and the colors you chose. Great job! I have a big open space in my entryway that I need to do something with also. Thanks for sharing!

  3. I love how the stenciling and the framing makes it look like a bulletin board! Definitely kicks the normal gallery wall trend up a notch :) Fantastic!
